Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, Florida, EMDR Therapist, Gottman Therapist
Shirley Szajnert earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida. Her unique background in hospitality shapes her therapeutic approach, prioritizing the creation of a welcoming, safe, and comfortable space where clients feel truly at home.
As a Jewish Venezuelan therapist, Shirley provides culturally responsive, relationship-centered care. Her approach is grounded in the belief that healing is supported through a consistent, collaborative therapeutic relationship.
Shirley is trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping clients build psychological flexibility and take meaningful steps toward their values even in the face of anxiety or self-doubt. She also incorporates Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed work to help clients develop compassion for parts of themselves carrying shame or old burdens.
Shirley is Gottman-trained and especially enjoys working with couples to strengthen their connections. She also has a special interest in supporting individuals navigating eating disorders and body image concerns. While her primary focus is on couples and eating disorder recovery, she welcomes individuals from late adolescence through older adulthood seeking support for everyday anxiety and depression.
