Mental health, behavioral health, therapist, child and family therapist, couple counseling, EMDR

I want to begin therapy. How do I start?

Many people have not participated in therapy in the past.  The Lux Center makes it easy to schedule an appointment.  If you are using insurance to pay for your sessions, we verify your benefits before your first appointment.  When we know your benefits or if you are paying cash, we will make an appointment with you and send you consent forms.

Can I use insurance to pay for sessions?

All insurance companies are different, but most help pay for mental and behavioral health services. All services must be medically necessary, meaning that you seek them because your symptoms impact your daily functioning at home, in relationships, or at work.

Clinical Hypnosis, EMDR Intensive Therapy sessions, Coaching, and consulting services are not covered by insurance.

Which insurances do you accept?

We currently accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, Oscar, Optum, United Healthcare, and UMR.

We are not in the network with any Medicaid or Medicare insurance. If we are not in-network with your insurance provider, we can provide a superbill, and your insurance provider may apply the cost to your out-of-network deductible. Please call your insurance provider for more information about your specific insurance policy.

Do you accept EAPs?

No, we do not accept any Employee Assistance Program sessions (EAPs).

Can I pay cash?

Yes, we accept cash for sessions.  The cost is $125 - $200 per session, depending on the services.

Do you provide a diagnosis?

When clients intend to use insurance to pay for their therapy, the clinician provides a diagnosis to the insurance company. Sessions, which are paid by insurance, must be medically necessary.

Are all of your therapists licensed?

All of the therapists at the Lux Center are master's level therapists.  Each therapist has different credentials.  See Our Team page to learn more about each of our therapists.

What is a Registered Intern?

A Registered Intern is a title required by the Board of Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling.  It means that the therapist has a master's degree in counseling and is working towards their hours to become a licensed therapist (a 2 - 3 year process).

Do you provide in-person or video sessions?

The Lux Center offers HIPAA-compliant video sessions, depending on the needs of each client.

How many sessions do I need? How will know when I should stop treatment?

Each client at The Lux Center is unique and has different treatment goals. We establish these goals during the initial session. We recommend that our clients participate in treatment consistently. Clients are discharged when their treatment goals have been achieved, or they feel they are finished.

Can I cancel a session (terms and conditions)?

The Lux Center of Counseling and Education is a private practice and small business.  We are dedicated to providing evidence-based therapeutic services in person and online.

The therapists at The Lux Center make every effort to keep you informed of your appointments.  When scheduling, each therapist creates a schedule based on your requests and their availability.  Therapists also inform you of your next appointment date, and an automated reminder is sent to you 24 hours before the appointment.

We recognize that events change, and you may need to reschedule your appointment.

IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT, WE REQUIRE MORE THAN 24 HOURS NOTICE.

If you cancel it within 24 hours notice or are a no show, The Lux Center of Counseling and Education will charge a $90 cancellation fee at the end of the business day.  In addition, if you no show one time or cancel two sessions within 24 hours of the appointment, we will not hold any future appointments for you, and you will need to reschedule at your convenience.

We understand that things happen occasionally! On rare occasions, if there is what we determine to be an unavoidable emergency, you may discuss this with your therapist. We may consider waiving the fee and continuing with the agreed-upon schedule. If you provide more than 24 hours notice, we can plan our schedules accordingly and offer the appointment time to other community members.

What does Lux mean?

LeAnn DeHoff, PhD, created the Lux Center of Counseling and Education.  She was inspired by the definition of lux, the measurement of light on or through a surface.  In therapy, counselors use many analogies and metaphors.  The use of lux is an example.  Sometimes, the light within you shines bright; sometimes, it needs help healing.  The Lux Center of Counseling and Education therapists are here to help shine a light on your inner experiences and support healing through evidence-based therapeutic methods.
